Orthodontists

In much the same way that orthopaedic surgeons, dermatologists, and cardiologists are specialist doctors, orthodontists are specialist dentists.

To qualify to be an ASO (Australian Society of Orthodontists) Registered Specialist, orthodontists must have completed a five-year Bachelor degree in Dentistry, followed by a three-year full-time Masters degree in Orthodontics. This represents more than 4000 hours of specialist training beyond that required for general dentists.

In Australia you don’t need a referral to see an orthodontist – ask your dentist for a recommendation, or simply make an appointment yourself.

As the work of orthodontists and dentists is complimentary, we will usually co-ordinate and discuss orthodontic treatment with your family dentist.
